992 Carrera 2017-2018 GT2 RS
The 992 Carrera is the high-performance version of the GT2, and made a return to the 991 lineup but this time around as the company’s RS variant. No other variant was produced unlike in previous generations. The GT2 RS was initially unveiled in 2017 during E3 and was announced alongside the Forza Motorsport 7 video game. The car then launched later in 2017 during the Goodwood Festival of Speed alongside the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series.
Under the Hood of the 992 Carrera GT2 RS
The 992 Carrera came powered with a 3.8L twin-turbo flat 6 engine producing a whopping 690 hp and 515 kW, at 7k rpm, and 550 lb-ft of torque, all of which set it up to be the most powerful 911 the company has ever built. However, unlike any other version in the past, this time around it came fitted with a 7-speed PDK transmission that allowed it to handle lots of torque produced by the engine at high revs.
Estimate acceleration figures published were 0-97 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 340 km/h.
The 992 came with a roof made from magnesium. The front, rear spoiler, lid and boot lid were made from lightweight carbon fibre. The rear and front apron both were made from lightweight polyurethane, while the side and rear windows were made from polycarbonate along with a titanium exhaust. The total wet weight of the 992 was touted as 1470 kg.
The Weissach Package
The Weissach package was an option which reduces the overall weight of the 992 by 30 kg, by mainly using titanium and carbon-fibre parts. So, things like the anti-roll bars, roof and the coupling rods across both axels were made using carbon fibre. In addition, it came with a set of beautiful and durable lightweight magnesium wheels.
